Peterhouse is the oldest college of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1284. It is one of the smaller colleges in terms of student population, with a strong reputation for academic excellence. The college retains much of its medieval architecture, with a mix of newer buildings added over centuries.
This project uses Structural brick arches where the underside is needed to be visible.
For Peterhouse College the Drive through arches are seen on three visible sides. The window arches are seen on soffit, as the windows are set back from the brickwork. These arches were manufactured in a Gothic style designed by the architect.
A pre-formed structural brick arch is a ready-made unit designed for quick installation, with brick slips set into a rigid framework for support. These arches replicate traditional designs, offering the same load-bearing capabilities and aesthetic, but with faster installation and reduced on-site labour.
Apex Brickcutters have 3 methods for structural brick arches:
1. Concrete Backed
2. Pre-cast Concrete Backed
3. Steel Backed
